A couple of nights ago we watched Burn After Reading, which someone had recommended to us as funny. Let me just start by saying it was not, not even for a dark comedy. Oh sure, there were some chucklesome moments scattered throughout, but the dominant emotion wasn’t humor, it was pity. Most of the characters [...] I haven’t posted a movie review in a while, though I’ve continued to enjoy a steady flow of Netflix discs. Last night I watched The Man from Earth, from a script by Jerome Bixby. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie, which is a low-budget indie production shot over 13 days in the California desert, [...] Saturday we saw the Clifton Park Not So Common Players’ (free) performance of The Wizard of Oz on the Clifton Common outdoor stage. It was a beautiful night: perfect temperature, gentle breeze, not too many bugs. For community theater, this was a very good production. Aside from abysmal sound control, everything was passable to great. [...] Have I mentioned that I hate Mondays? I can never seem to get my brain in gear until late in the day. Too much catching up from the weekend. Anyway, the latest movie we saw from Netflix was… First up is Slither, a 2006 homage to ’80s horror movies. I quite enjoyed this one, and give it four stars. If you didn’t appreciate Tremors, Nightmare on Elmstreet, Shaun of the Dead, or a host of others, steer clear of this one. It’s not a big gorefest, but there is good blend of action, [...] Saw Brick last night. This is another great movie. Saw the preview for this one on Inside Man, also good. Saw Apocalypto last week or so, and thought I’d mention it. While I’m thinking about it from the previous post, here’s my take on The Science of Sleep. A while back, we ‘Flixed The Fountain, since we had seen an interesting preview on some other movie we got. |
