Finland, Finland, Finland…

…the country where I quite want to be.

Well, all apologies to Monty Python, but we’re here! We arrived last night and got checked in to the Scandic around dinner time. As we ate, we realized it took us 32 hours to get the delicious reindeer carbonara I was eating. Boy, it was worth it!

Okay, maybe it wasn’t quite that good. But I’m sure the whole trip will be. We haven’t seen a lot yet, but from the plane’s descent and the cab ride we could see that the terrain is remarkably similar to upstate New York. Though, there are more evergreens, so it reminds me of Washington a bit more.

Today we have a “safari”booked down to the Ranua zoo, and tomorrow we head over to the Luosto amethyst mine, which is located in a national park. So, soon I should be able to fill you in on a little more of the local color.

Oh, speaking of color…looks like they are about a month ahead of the Capital Region, season-wise. The aspens are just turning golden and they are quite beautiful mixed In with all the evergreens. We plan to take lots of photos, so stay tuned.

Right now I need to drag Heather out of bed so we can get food before we head to the zoo. Poor thing is zonkered. I, unfortunately, have been mostly awake since 3:30. is 7 hours ahead of Eastern Time. I expect I’ll be pretty damned tired tonight, but, then, I was pretty damned tired last night, too.

Alright. More later.
