Here’s an interesting riff on idea #3. A dice mechanic:
Roll 3 dice, each a different color. Each color has a different distribution of values (like the d10s for Fantasy Flight’s Tomb). Each color represents a different long term effect, beneficial, neutral, and deleterious. The beneficial has the low numbers, the deleterious the high. Now, look at the results on the dice. Choose the one you want and accept the consequences.
